On 26 January i.e. Republic Day flag hosting ceremony along with parade by armed forces and school children are held at Rajpath. The parade starts from Rashtrapati Bhawan, held at Rajpath and ends at the India Gate. The first Indian Republic Day parade was held in 1950 and it happens every year since then.
The Prime Minister of India first lays a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate, in memory of all members of the armed forces who gave up their life for the country. Thereafter there is the 21 gun salute followed by, the unfurling of the National Flag and singing of the National Anthem. The awards such as Ashok Chakra , Paramvir Chakra, Vir Chakra are also presented during the Republic Day ceremony.
